Toronto Antiquarian Book Fair 2016 writes new chapter in book collecting

From November 4 through 6, 2016, the beautiful Baillie Court of the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) will be transformed into a book-lover’s paradise as the 7th Toronto Antiquarian Book Fair (TABF) opens to the public.

The premiere antiquarian and collectible book fair in Canada, the TABF encourages everyone from novice book collectors and casual readers to librarians, archivists, and academics to browse the wide-ranging selection of books, maps, prints, manuscripts, and ephemera on display.

Long-time exhibitor and TABF organizer Michael Park of Winnipeg’s Greenfield Books, describes the weekend event as opening up the pages of history in a direct and experiential way. “Whether it’s an 1880’s Girls’ Commonplace Book, a collection of letters between two long-distance lovers in the early 1900’s, or finely bound volumes from the 16th century,” Park explains, “the TABF enables visitors to see and handle museum-quality items that they would otherwise never experience.”

Visitors to the Toronto Antiquarian Book Fair are sure to tap into another inescapable feature of it, according to Park. “The passion participating booksellers have for their inventory is palpable. Their enthusiasm for and knowledge about what they are exhibiting and selling adds an irreplaceable depth to the weekend,” said Park. “They truly know the back-stories and want to ensure each piece they sell ends up in the hands of those who will appreciate it.”

The TABF is sponsored by the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of Canada and joins the prestigious California, New York, and Boston fairs on the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers’ 2016 North American calendar.

The Fair is free with AGO admission.
