Serendipity Books - For Sale
"Peter Howard is by any standard one of the giants of the trade in our time. He exemplifies one of the principal reasons I have always found the trade so appealing: you can get to do it your way. And Peter certainly does do it his way. Any ordinary mortal would be dwarfed sitting among the tall shelves and piles of books at Serendipity. But Peter is no ordinary mortal and the solitary figure sitting at the desk in that vast sea of books was, it was immediately obvious to anyone entering his premises, emperor of his realm."
Ed Glaser
It was legendary: Seredenpity Books. An era came to an end when one of the iconic characters and most famous antiquarian booksellers Peter B. Howard died on March 31, 2011. Now his shop Serendipity Books is for sale, either the inventory en bloc with millions of books ranging from rare first editions to beautiful items of all fields of interests or as an ongoing business with an option to purchase or continue leasing the building. The shop is located in Berkeley, California, in the warehouse-like quarters at 1201 University Avenue which formerly housed the Oak Barrel Winery. Many of the tables, chairs and boards were designed by Thomas Saydah. People interested in purchasing Serendipity or its inventory please send an email to William Matthews at info@serendipitybooks.com. Serious enquiries only please!
