John Windle

"The challenge for the book trade is to introduce young people to rare books and foster an appreciation of the importance of books as cultural artefacts. We can show them what a difference they can make to the world by what they choose to collect and treasure, to write about and share with friends."

John Windle has been dealing in rare books, manuscripts, and book-related prints and paintings since 1967. After training with Bernard Quaritch Ltd. in London and John Howell- Books in San Francisco, he founded his own business in San Francisco in 1974. John Windle Antiquarian Booksellers offers an exceptional selection of rare books and manuscripts from medieval times through the 20th century, and specializes in illustrated material, particularly the work of William Blake and his circle. The company issues one or two printed catalogues a year, one devoted to specialised subjects depending on current inventory, and the other a general catalogue of rare books and manuscripts. John Windle is a member of the Grolier Club, the Roxburghe Club of San Francisco, the Caxton Club, the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and the ILAB.
