ONCE AGAIN IN 2016
SPEED DATING FOR BOOKLOVERS ACROSS THE WORLD
Dear Colleagues,
Please join us on Saturday April 23, 2016 when we will focus world attention on rare books and associated materials. At this time when UNESCO and many others throughout the world celebrate literacy, ILAB Booksellers will once again run a worldwide 24 hour campaign to promote our trade and to raise money for literacy.
If ever there was a year to get involved it is 2016, as it is the 400th anniversary of the deaths of both Shakespeare and Cervantes! So don’t hesitate, join us!
What should you do and where should you do it? Many ILAB affiliates across the world will organise Pop Up Book Fairs – they will gather in a bookish flashmob with a few colleagues and showcase a few of their most interesting items in a venue, which maybe a surprising unusual venue, or may be the local library, a national institution, a railway station, a business club, it doesn’t matter - wherever you can find. In fact you and your colleagues might prefer to organise another type of event – a Pop Up book party, a short exhibition, a valuation session, a public debate … Please, do so! The main thing is to do something!
The purpose of ILAB’s participation in World Book and Copyright Day is to spotlight rare books and bookselling while raising money for what is at the very foundation of all we do - literacy.
We intend to grab the attention of the rare book Internet community, our customers, librarians and the world’s media again next year. Help us make the great chain of events organized by ILAB booksellers on UNESCO World Book & Copyright Day 2016 a worldwide – virtual and real – sensation.
Already some organisers have booked venues for next April and begun some preliminary advertising. Use this opportunity to show the book trade in a very unusual and positive manner.

Rejoignez-nous le samedi 23 Avril 2016 pour célébrer le livre ancien! A l’heure où l'UNESCO et de nombreux autres à travers le monde célèbreront la lecture, nos libraires lanceront une campagne de 24 heures dans le monde entier pour promouvoir notre métier et ramasser des fonds pour l’alphabétisation des pays pauvres.
2016 est l’année où jamais pour s’impliquer dans cet évènement, car c’est à la fois le 400e anniversaire de la mort de Shakespeare et de Cervantes. Donc, n’hésitez-pas, rejoignez-nous!
Que devez-vous faire et où devez-vous le faire? De nombreux affiliés de la LILA à travers le monde organiseront des Foires Pop-Up - ils se réunissent dans un flashmob livresque avec quelques collègues et présentent quelques-uns de leurs livres ou documents les plus intéressants dans un lieu, qui peu être insolite ou surprenant, voire la bibliothèque locale, une institution nationale, une gare, un club d’affaires… En fait, peu importe l'endroit. A moins que vous ne préféreriez organiser un autre type d'événement - une Foire Pop Up en soirée, une exposition d’un jour ou d’un soir, une session d'évaluation, un débat public … L’essentiel est de participer!
Le but de la participation de la LILA à cette journée mondiale est de mettre en lumière les livres rares et la librairie ancienne tout en amassant de l'argent pour ce qui est à la base même de tout ce que nous faisons - l’alphabétisation.
Nous avons l'intention d'attirer l'attention de la communauté Internet du livre rare, de nos clients, des bibliothécaires et des médias du monde. Aidez-nous à fabriquer la chaîne sensationnelle des événements réels et virtuels organisés par les libraires de la LILA à l’occasion de la Journée Mondiale du Livre et du Droit d’Auteur de l’UNESCO!
Déjà, certains organisateurs ont réservé des lieux pour Avril prochain et commencé à faire un peu de publicité préliminaire. Profitez de cette occasion pour montrer notre métier d'une manière très inhabituelle et positive.
