“Rare Books and Rock n’ Roll are my great loves”, says David Brass. He has been in the rare book business for over 40 years; his family has been in the business since 1876. His grandfather, Jack Joseph and great uncle, Sam Joseph, traded as E. (Emmanuel) Joseph on Holywell Street in the Strand, London. In 1900, the firm moved to no. 48 Charing Cross Road; another branch of the family traded as Marks & Co., the booksellers immortalized by Helene Hanff in her novel 84 Charing Cross Road. David Brass had managed the family firm until 1993, before he moved to Los Angeles and became Director of Acquisitions (1993-1997) and Vice President of Heritage Book Shop, Inc. until 2004.
