Dr. Paul Kainbacher, Austrian bookseller and specialist on rare travel accounts, natural history and early photographies from exotic places, invites customers and colleague to a Bibliophile Evening dedicated to the history and exploration of the "heart of Africa".

Baden (Vienna), 14th March, 2015 - a must for book collectors who are interested in rare and fine books on travel and expedition. Dr. Paul Kainbacher, Austrian bookseller and specialist on rare travel accounts, natural history and early photographies from exotic places, invites customers and colleague to a Bibliophile Evening dedicated to the history and exploration of the "heart of Africa".

Prof. Dr. Walter Sauer and Prof. Dr. Michael - two widely known experts from the University of Vienna - will take you back to the beginnings of the discovery of Africa and to the times of the early travel accounts. Afterwards Paul Kainbacher will present rare and valuable first editions of works by authors like Oskar Baumann, Ernst Marno, Emil Holub, Gustav Nachtigal, Barth, Rohlfs, Schweinfurth and many other adventurers and discoverers. All these fascinating books, prints and photographies will be documented in the new catalogue published by Paul Kainbacher in March 2015.

Walter Sauer, Professor at the Instute of Social and Economic History of Africa at Vienna University, follows the traces of Austrian explorers in Africa.

Prof. Dr. Michael Zach - Österreichische Sudanreisende im 19. Jahrhundert. Forscher, Missionare, Diplomaten und Abenteurer – und eine österreichische Kolonie in Afrika?


Michael Zach, Professor at Vienna University specialising on the history and culture of North Africa and Sudan, speaks about early Austrian scholars and explorers in Sudan since 1820/21 and describes the plans of the Habsburg monarchy to establish a colony in Sudan in mid-19th century.

Dr. Paul Kainbacher shows rare and valuable books on Africa.
