Books on the Move

This year’s Amsterdam Antiquarian Book, Map & Print Fair will be held from 28 to 29 October, 2011, in the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. After the great success in 2010 both Dutch antiquarian booksellers associations, the Nederlandsche Vereeniging van Antiquaren (NVvA) and the Bond van handelaren in Oude Boeken (BOB) will for the second time organize and support an Antiquarian Book Fair where more than 60 Dutch and foreign dealers present wonderfull books, manuscripts, maps and prints from all centuries. The Fair will also feature displays by private presses, publishers and bibliophile societies.

Arnold Heertje - Book Fair Patron


Arnold Heertje will open the 32th Amsterdam Antiquarian Book, Map & Print Fair on Friday 28 October at 1.50 pm. Heertje is professor of economics, author of numerous books in this field, and one of the most important Dutch collectors. His library contains around 12.000 extraordinary books from the history of economics and politics, including one of the very rare copies of the first impression of Karl Marx’ “Das Kapital” in its original binding.


Movables, Pop-ups, and Books for Books - Exhibition and Charity Auction


The University of Amsterdam will exhibit a fascinating and recently acquired collection of movable books and pop-up books from the estate of Professor W.A. Wagenaar. On show are around hundred precious editions of movable books by the German illustrator Lothar Meggendorfer (1847-1925)

The oldest book museum in the world, the Museum Meermanno, will show some highlights of Book for Books, a charity auction in late November to support the museum in coping with drastic budget cuts.
