Care and Integrity in Cataloguing - Recordings from the 2025 ILAB Symposium
We are pleased to make the recordings of the individual sessions available here, starting with Session 1: Why It Matters: Care and Integrity in Cataloguing.
After a warm welcome by ILAB Vice President Mats Petersson and the President of the Australian and New Zealand Antiquarian Booksellers Association (ANZAAB), Dawn Albinger, the first session of the day discussed ways of how we can build more ethical, transparent, and inclusive practices around the handling of rare materials, with a focus on reparative practices. The session covered initiatives by the book trade as well as institutional efforts to address historical biases in collection records.
How do we as guardians of our printed heritage ensure that records are accurate, respectful, and free from bias? What responsibility do booksellers and librarians have when describing sensitive or contested materials?
The session highlighted how cataloguing can become a more inclusive and responsible practice in both commercial and institutional contexts.
