21st Auction - 5 June 2026
Hereditas Antikvárium
Our 21st Auction, held on 5 June 2026 at the Károlyi Palace (Petőfi Literary Museum, Budapest), features 199 exceptional lots – including several documents related to the Battle of Mohács. The map section has been slightly expanded on this occasion: alongside plates by Hondius, Mercator, Jansson, and Blaeu, we have included two books (though neither is strictly an atlas). One of these is Heinrich Bünting’s “Itinerarium Sacrae Scripturae” (1581), and the other is Mátyás Bél’s Compendium (with Tomka Szászky's extremely rare administrative sheets). We also offer several exciting lots beyond the maps, including rare early Hungarian prints, important historical documents, fine literary first editions, manuscripts, spectacular engravings, and notable works in militaria and Turcica. Highlights include Kant's first edition of “Critik der practischen Vernunft” (1788), autographs of several Nobel laureates, including Einstein, Hemingway, Thomas Mann, Hesse, and Szent-Györgyi, a 1940 periodical signed by Nikola Tesla, and two – one French and one Hungarian – first editions by Charles Darwin.
The items will be on view in our shop at 1052 Budapest, Vitkovics Mihaly utca 12 from 26 May, weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please feel free to contact us if you require additional photographs to assist you with your decision. We also accept absentee bids and telephone bidding registrations via email until 11 a.m. CEST on the day of the auction.
