Roger Treglown is the new president of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association (UK)

He said his main focus in the role will be to remind the association that it is

“...here to help members sell books to be able to put food on the table. We mustn’t lose sight of that.
I think it is also very important to remember to put something back into the trade. Many people just take but I am trying to put something back.”

20 years on the council

Starting his book trade career in 1980 in Hale, Treglown first joined the ABA in 1989 and was appointed to the council in 2000.

“Despite all the things that have happened to me [his personal difficulties have included a family tragedy and surviving a brain haemorrhage], I know it is important, in life and in business, to have goals and aspirations.

Nearly 20 years after joining the ABA council I have become president.”

He said he was “very honoured to take on the role” previously held by Angus O’Neill of Omega Bookshop in London.

The position of president of the ABA is traditionally held for two years.

Roger Treglown is also a mentor in the ILAB International Mentoring Programme and has for many years taken care of the ABA Library and was Chairman of the ABA's Chelsea Antiquarian Book Fair.
