Opera, Gala Dinner, Prize Award
The book fair still opened its doors to the many visitors during the weekend. The ILAB dealers were doing business, while their spouses enjoyed trips to Ferrara, Mantova and Firenze.
The big event: Everyone had been waiting for the Opera and Gala farewell dinner on 25th September. Four wonderful opera singers and a pianist charmed the audience’s ears at the Oratorio San Filippo Neri. At the Palazzo Isolani the crowd assembled in the courtyard to listen to Umberto Pregliasco’s and Arnoud Gerits’s speeches. "I don't know how to thank you for all the excellent work you did by giving ILAB such a magnificent congress", said Arnoud Gerits. We all agreed with never ending applause while the new ILAB President gave a very special present to the true match winner Umberto Pregliasco: a football shirt, Dutch orange.
The ILAB Breslauer Prize for Bibliography is one of the most prestigious prizes. It was handed by Felix de Marez-Oyens (B.H. Breslauer Foundation) to Lotte Hellinga and Jan Storm van Leeuwen for their outstanding works "Catalogue of Books printed in the XVth Century now in the British Library, BMC. Part XI – England" and "Dutch Decorated Bookbinding in the Eighteenth Century". Both, Lotte Hellinga and Jan Storm van Leeuwen, were ILAB's guests at this special occasion. The ceremony was followed by yet another delicious dinner.
