In December 2016, ILAB launched a new Mentoring Programme, which aims to help young or recently established booksellers throughout the world by offering support and counselling on a one on one basis.

In our new series "Meet the ILAB Mentors", we would like to present those booksellers who are volunteering their time for newer entrants to the antiquarian and rare book trade!

Anne Lamort of Anne Lamort Livres

At the age of 28, Anne Lamort left the French Ministry of Defense to join her father, the book expert Christian Galantaris. After a 5-year apprenticeship, she opened her first bookshop situated close to the Eiffel Tower and the Trocadéro, right in the heart of Paris. Having always been interested in the destiny of private libraries and the mores of bibliophilic life, she published in 2002 her first book, which covered subjects from original bindings to famous 19th century personalities.

Her book, the Guide pratique de la bibliophilie (2010), has sold several thousand copies in France and beyond. During her career as a bookseller, she has published more than 100 generic as well as specialised catalogues, amongst them catalogues of the French typographer Louis Perrin, the writers, publishers and typographers Pierre Bettencourt, Pierre-André Benoit and many more.

Anne Lamort specialises in rare and antiquarian books mostly from the 18th and 19th century, original bindings, history and literature.

From 2012 - 2016, Anne was President of the French dealer’s association, SLAM, and together with her team at SLAM, organised the 41st ILAB Congress and the 25th ILAB International Antiquarian Book Fair in Paris. This was a memorable event for all dealers who took part, with its visits to libraries such as the Arsenal Library, presentations at the National Library of France, an excursion to the Ecouen Castle with its National Museum of the Renaissance, a visit of the Castle of Chantilly, which was a former residence of the Duke of Aumale, one of France’s most renowned bibliophiles, a private visit to see the Dutuit Collection at the Petit Palais with its collection of incunabula and gothic works and of course, the Mazarine Library.

Anne Lamort strongly supports the idea of mentorship in the rare book trade and joined the Mentoring Programme in January 2017. Anne will be a wonderful mentor with vast experience in the book trade but also very specific knowledge to pass on to the younger generation.

A PDF of her work Guide pratique de la bibliophilie (2010) can be downloaded here.

Anne exhibits at various international book fairs, such as Salon du Livre Ancien Paris or the Salon du Mont des Arts in Brussels, all ILAB (International League of Antiquarian Booksellers) affiliated fairs.

We would like to thank Anne and all ILAB colleagues who have joined the programme as mentors for offering their time and expertise to ensure the future of our trade.
