What can Ryu offer a mentee? Ryu originally studied Japanese literature as a student at university in Tokyo. At the start of his career he worked in a rare book shop in Kanda, Tokyo. The bookshop specialized in Japanese ancient documents. He can therefore teach you how to read old Japanese typefaces, which he learned at university and on the job. He can also teach you about the rare book industry in Japan, and illustrated books (i.e. Japanese woodblock printed material, paintings, art, design, typography, etc.). He is also interested in West meets East art, which he is happy to talk about with you.
