The 5th edition of China in Print - Hong Kong’s leading international antiquarian fair with particular focus on Asian printed material opens today, featuring exhibitors from Austria, Australia, England, France, Hong Kong, Japan, and the USA.

China in Print is Asia’s premier international fair and exhibition for rare books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, and ephemera. The books, and other works on paper, which are offered for sale at the fair are exceptionally rare, museum-quality pieces. Important examples of printed and manuscript works on China and her history, both visual and textual, will be exhibited. There will also be seminal works on subjects ranging from world literature to history and politics, many in beautiful bindings or with interesting provenances. Some are signed by historical figures, or belonged to them.

Among the exhibits we are expecting to see:

- the first French edition of Machiavelli’s The Prince (1553)

- the famous “Battle Copper Prints” of Qianlong Emperor’s military campaigns against the Jinchuan tribes (1778-1785)

- existentialist philosopher Kierkegaard’s complete works (1838-1859)

- a chromolithograph panorama of Hong Kong Island & the town of Victoria (1851)

- the most influential of all the nineteenth-century Bible translations issued in China, The ‘Delegates’ Version’ of New Testament in Chinese (1852)

- a first edition of Das Kapital that Karl Marx gave to the general secretary of the First International, Johann Georg Eccarius (1867)

- China’s earliest publication on sport, Sport and Gossip (1897–1901)

- a first edition George Orwell’s classic political novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949)

- Quotations from Chairman Mao signed by Mao Zedong (1966)

- the great American pop artist Andy Warhol’s signed print Marilyn Monroe (1981)

The fair is held at a beautiful venue, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum in a very central location.
