As the printed book emerged in the 15th century, its design mimicked that of the manuscript, with an incipit at the top of the first page and a colophon at the end of the book. One of the most obvious innovations of the early printers was the addition of a title page. Over time, printers not only included more information on this page but also presented it within carefully wrought designs.
