Founded in 1971 by Wayne Somers, a former college library bibliographer, Hammer Mountain Book Halls began as a catalogue business specializing in out-of-print scholarly books. We chose the name for euphony and because we occupied the second-highest point in the county, the top of a 1,200 foot hill. Since 1981, we've also operated "W. Somers, Bookseller," a retail book shop with a constantly changing general stock of books not listed on the Internet. It's open Monday-Friday, 1-5, and Saturday, 10-5; browsers are welcome. We've been members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of American / ILAB since 1977. Since 1971 we have published a total of 45 paper catalogues, and we expect to continue issuing them in the fields of Continental European History, British History, French Literature, German Literature, and books recommended in Resources for College Libraries. Our catalogue stock is entirely fresh; we don't put it on the Internet until several months after mailing the catalogue. All books still available from our previous catalogues are listed on this web site. If you would like to receive our next catalogues in one of these fields, let us know, being sure to specify your field of interest and include your postal address (we have no electronic catalogues). We're also the publisher and sole source of the invaluable "Bibliography Finder for American Authors," by Wayne Somers and Ilse Pinkus, which you can buy for a pittance through this web site.
