"Sweet home Chicago" is worth visiting for many reasons: Chicago between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River is an international hub for finance, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation with O'Hare International Airport being the busiest airport in the world.

Walking through the Chicago streets visitors will notice its manifold cultural traces: Chicago is not only the home of the amazing Symphony Orchestra, but also of jazz, blues, soul, house and hip-hop, a famous destination for baseball, football and basketball players, and renowned for the traditional deep-dish pizza. The city’s name was derived from the Native American word “shikaakwa” meaning “wild garlic” and referring to the plants growing in abundance in that region.

After the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, the city became a centre of modern architecture. From the ruins of the previous wooden structures arose modern constructions of steel and stone. In Chicago the world's first skyscraper was built in 1885. Some of the United States' tallest towers are located there along with gems of architectural history, such as the Chicago Building by Mies van der Rohe. Another famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, designed The Robie House near Chicago University, and he was a member of the Cliff Dwellers Club.

The Cliff Dwellers, a private club founded in 1907, unites the supporters of the fine and performing arts, in short: the intellectual high-society of Chicago. It has become a place where people interested in the arts, both professionally and as committed observers, may come together in a congenial and friendly way. Among the members were Wallace Rice, William Morton Payne, A.B. Pond and Carl Sandburg who described Chicago as:

“Hog Butcher for the World
Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat
Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler
Stormy, Husky, Brawling, City of the Big Shoulders."

At the elegant premises of the Cliff Dwellers Club and coinciding with one of their meetings, Kurt Gippert and around ten other Chicago booksellers will hold an amazing ILAB Pop Up Book Fair overlooking Lake Michigan from the skyscraper windows, where Frank Lloyd Wright very likely had a drink with Carl Sandburg.
