"Thoughtful, relevant,... accessible and informative..., convivial, open and professional"
Brooke Ferguson who runs Mille Septante Books in Brussels received the 2024 York Antiquarian Book Seminar scholarship from ILAB. We want to share her enthusiastic feedback of this very valuable course for booksellers:
"...The seminar talks, lectures and hands-on sessions where thoughtful, relevant, and delivered in an accessible and informative way. Faculty often referred to their own experiences which provided a clear perspective on the reality of working as a professional in the trade. It was also really wonderful to be in the company of so many like-minded people, seminar participants and faculty, so passionate about antiquarian books and learning more about working in the business of dealing in them. YABS was convivial, open and professional, and organisers where very understanding with me having a one year old baby.
York is a beautiful location for the seminar to be held. It was great to step out for a bookshop tour, have the opportunity to visit a printmaking workshop, and join for York Book Fair.
YABS was a masterclass in antiquarian book trade best practice, covering the contemporary tactics to adopt and tendencies to be aware of, the dos and don'ts, and the level of risk and reality of being an antiquarian bookseller.
The opportunity to participate in YABS has definitely given me the confidence to take the next steps in my journey as an antiquarian bookseller in Brussels!
