The Squatter Movement in Germany, 1970-1984

An ideologically, politically, and culturally heterogeneous group, the movement had a lasting impact on cities such as Frankfurt am Main, West Berlin, Bremen, and Hamburg, where the successful occupation of vacant pre-war houses often prevented their destruction and allowed for the preservation of large swaths of historical architecture.
