A global "ILAB School" without borders: The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers offers internships to students and beginners in the rare book trade who wish to widen their knowledge through practical learning and to plug into the worldwide network of antiquarian bookselling. All ILAB booksellers are very welcome to join the ILAB Internship Program and to provide young students an opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on experience in the international rare book business at any time and in any place in the world. Applicants are carefully chosen after they have contacted ILAB President Norbert Donhofer, who has initiated the Internship Program in 2009 together with Eric Waschke (Canada) and Professor Dr. Olga Tarakanowa (Moscow State University of the Printing Arts).

Applicants are carefully chosen after they have contacted ILAB President Norbert Donhofer, who has initiated the Internship Program in 2009 together with Eric Waschke (Canada) and Professor Dr. Olga Tarakanowa (Moscow State University of the Printing Arts). Former interns spent six to eight weeks in Austria, Netherlands, Germany and Hungary (Alena Lavrenova and Anastasya Zhikhareva), Australia (Pavel Chepyzhov, Maria Rodionova), the United Kingdom (Valentina Rudnitskaya), the United States (Julia Kulyamzina), and in Spain (Ksenia Batueva). Career Goals

I would like to get foreign experiences in the antiquarian book trade. After graduating from university I plan to work in this field. I think it's very interesting to learn the history of bygone years through antiquarian books. I would like to get share the experience of my colleagues from other countries. I believe that the ILAB Internships can will help to establish new contacts, which will undoubtedly foster the development of international antiquarian book trade.

Price: "The Book of Songs" was very popular in the late 19th century. In the period from 1889 to 1897 it was released in 7 different versions - cheaper, and as a gift (2000-47000 RUR, depends on its condition). This book can be estimated at 1700 RUR.

Heinrich Heine is a German poet and novelist, critic and essayist. He was born in 1797 in Dusseldorf in a Jewish family. Heine’s first poems were published in 1817. His first collection of poetry followed in 1821. It includes poems, which became one of the sections of the first cycle of "The Book of Songs".

Illustrations by the German artist Paul Thumann.

"The Book of Songs" was published by the famous Russian publisher and printer Hermann Hoppe (05/24/1836 - 04/15/1885). He was a founder of a large publishing company "Hermann Hoppe Book publishing" (1867-1914) in St. Petersburg. Hermann Hoppe also published an illustrated weekly magazine for families reading "World illustration".

Condition: Our exemplar is in poor condition: the binding is rubbed, the spine is torn along the edges. Some of the pages are missing. Foxing and small blemishes on the pages. Page edges are unevenly cut and soiled. Ex-owners’ inscriptions and drawings on some of the pages.
