What are you collecting? The free guided tours at The ABA Chelsea Rare Book Fair are a fantastic way to learn more about rare and collectible books, maps, prints, and ephemera, giving you valuable insight into the world of collecting. Full details of the 2018 tours will be available closer to the Fair dates. All tours will take place on Saturday the 4th of November - please register on the stage in the main hall.
BOOK SIGNING: THOMAS BEWICK: THE SKETCHBOOK OF 1792-1799
In 2013 the only known sketchbook by the famed wood engraver Thomas Bewick re-emerged at the California Book Fair. This highly significant manuscript comprises forty original drawings from Bewick’s most creative period, including some that were later published in his History of British Birds and General History of Quadrupeds. Virtually unknown, it was only exhibited briefly in 1903 and has never been reproduced until now.
Published by Jarndyce Books, this limited edition of 200 copies carefully reproduces the complete sketchbook in facsimile, with book design by Iain Bain and detailed explanatory text by Nigel Tattersfield, both leading authorities on the life and work of the artist.
