Following an engaging session earlier in the week on the CABS-Minnesota seminar, this second discussion focused on YABS, the York Antiquarian Book Seminar, the UK’s leading training programme for the rare book trade. The session explored how booksellers learn their trade, what training opportunities exist, and how essential skills in cataloguing, pricing, and bookselling are developed.

Viewers will hear directly from Sophie Schneideman (Sophie Schneideman Rare Books, London), long-standing YABS faculty member, and Anthony Smithson (Keel Row Books, Whitley Bay), co-founder of the seminar, in conversation with Liam McGahern (Patrick McGahern Books, Ontario and ILAB Education Coordinator) and past student, Josh Knight. The session offered valuable insights into the structure of the seminar, its teaching approach, and the benefits it offers to participants at different stages of their careers.

If you were unable to join us live, or would like to revisit the discussion you can now watch the full recording here:

We hope this session provides useful insight into YABS and encourages those interested to explore this excellent training opportunity further.
