David and Natalie Bauman founded Bauman Rare Books in 1973 with their first investment in a box of 18th-century imprints, a love of literature and history, and a sense that this could be an interesting way to make a living. Nearly thirty-five years later, Bauman Rare Books has evolved into one of the finest and most respected antiquarian book firms. In 1989 David and Natalie Bauman opened a New York gallery at the Waldorf-Astoria, where they were located for over ten years. In 1999 they expanded to their current gallery on Madison Avenue, located between 54th and 55th Streets. There customers find an extraordinary selection of rare books, autographs, maps and prints in every imaginable subject area, dating from the 15th through the 20th centuries. The central offices are located in Philadelphia at the historic Sun-Oil Building on Walnut Street. It houses the research staff, the catalogue production department, and the sales division and advertising. In February of 2008 Bauman Rare Books opened a third location, a gallery in the Palazzo in Las Vegas – perhaps the only place in the world where you can purchase a Shakespeare folio at 10:30 on a Saturday night.
