President of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of Canada

We are deeply saddened to learn that Michael Park, President of ABAC and owner of Greenfield Books in Winnipeg passed away on May 19, 2017.

Greenfield Books, Manitoba was a well respected and successful bookselling institution. Michael will be greatly missed not only by the Canadian book trade but by booksellers throughout North America

Our thoughts are with his wife Caroline and his family at this very difficult time.

Message from Gonzalo F. Pontes, ILAB President:

To the ABAC and our colleagues in Canada; these are very sad news. I would like to send our sincere condolences on behalf of the ILAB committee to Michael's family and colleagues. We met in Budapest during the last ILAB congress and enjoyed working with him. He was a principled man and will be missed in our trade.

My heartfelt condolences.
Gonzalo Fernandez Pontes, ILAB President

Message from Norbert Donhofer, Immediate Past President of ILAB:

Dear Fellow Presidents, dear Colleagues,

I was deeply saddened to hear about the totally unexpected death of Michael Park. While we had met firstly only about 18 months ago – during the Seville-meeting – Michael and I had built up a more close relationship. Not only had he shown up perfectly prepared at the meetings at Seville and Budapest, and not only had he asked the right questions several times, no, the two of us had exchanged a couple of e-mails – official ones, and private ones – and I remember several highly interesting discussions with him about books, the trade, and about travelling, a passion the two of us had shared.

I will remember Michael as a gifted bookseller, as an officer of ABAC whit whom it has been a great pleasure to work, and a close friend.

My thoughts are with his family, and the board of the ABAC.

Sincere regards,
Norbert Donhofer.
