Wanted! ILAB INTERNSHIPS FOR YOUNG BOOKSELLERS

"Maria Rodionova, ILAB intern, reported that coming to Australia and working at Cornstalk Bookshop in Sydney and Asia Bookroom in Canberra has been a life changing experience. All of us here at Asia Bookroom would encourage other booksellers to consider offering such an opportunity to other young booksellers in the ILAB Internship Program" (Sally Burdon).

A global "ILAB School" without borders: The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers offers internships to beginners in the rare book trade.

SIX WEEKS IN SPAIN AS AN ILAB INTERN

Ksenia Batueva spent six weeks in Spain working with antiquarian booksellers in Bilbao, Barcelona and Madrid:

"This internship was really a great experience for me. I will never forget this trip and I will try to make it to be a start for something more!"

Book Scouting in ... Amsterdam

Ever been in Amsterdam? As in every European city there is much to see. Beautiful old buildings, the historic canals (Amsterdam is one of the cities called 'Venice of the North'!) lots of museums, history and art. For booklovers there are some great old book shops and flee-markets. People are friendly, and - guess what? - with few exceptions everybody speaks English too.

By making that information available in real time the internet changed the "marketplace" for rare and second-hand books from a metaphor to a reality.

Jim Hinck: "We are all now dealing with the enormous disruption that results from this ... Only the portion of the book trade that deals in genuinely rare books escapes these pressures."
