Antiquarian book dealers, collectors, and the intellectually curious will gather in New York City for the Rare Book Week from 1st to 8th April 2014 - the largest gathering of its kind anywhere in the world with numerous exhibitions, lectures, auctions and other book-related events. Rare Book Week, coordinated by Fine Books & Collections magazine is headlined by the 54th annual New York Antiquarian Book Fair from 3rd to 6th April at the Park Avenue Armory where over 200 American and international dealers showcase an astonishing array of rare books, fine art, maps, manuscripts, and ephemera.

A week later book lovers will meet again to celebrate another highlight of the year: The Syndicat national de la Librarie Ancienne et Moderne (SLAM) invites booksellers and collectors to visit the most elegant antiquarian book fair ever: the Salon International du Livre Ancien and 25th ILAB International Antiquarian Book Fair at the beautiful Grand Palais in Paris. Around 180 rare book dealers from Europe, Australia, the United States and Japan will fill their shelves with bibliophile treasures from 11th to 13th April, 2014.
The Paris International Antiquarian Book Fair provides the perfect background for the official award of one of the most prestigous prizes in the world of bibliophily: On Saturday, 12th April, at noon, Jon Gilbert will be honoured with the 16th ILAB Breslauer Prize for Bibliography for his outstanding and superb work:

41st ILAB CONGRESS - THE MEETING PLACE FOR BOOKSELLERS
The Book Fair at the Grand Palais is immediately followed by the 41st ILAB Congress from 13th to 16th April 2014. SLAM and its President Anne Lamort are pleased and proud to welcome antiquarian booksellers to a week devoted to the wonderful world of rare books. The stunning program includes a visit to the Arsenal Library, a presentation of the treasures held in the National Library of France, excursions to the castles of Ecouen and Chantilly with their marvellous Museum of the Renaissance and bibliophile collections along with private tours of the Dutuit Collection and the Mazarine Library.

With the 41st ILAB Congress and the International Antiquarian Book Fair at the Grand Palais (Paris) the Syndicat National de la Librairie Ancienne et Moderne (SLAM) celebrates its 100th anniversay. SLAM was established in 1914, and is one of the biggest and oldest antiquarian booksellers' associations, preceded by the ABA only which was founded as early as 1906.

Ever been in Amsterdam? As in every European city there is much to see. Beautiful old buildings, the historic canals (Amsterdam is one of the cities called 'Venice of the North'!) lots of museums, history and art. For booklovers there are some great old book shops and flee-markets. People are friendly, and - guess what? - with few exceptions everybody speaks English too.
There had always been something that you could call a "marketplace" for old books, but before the internet it operated in a dense fog. There was no real marketplace where public knowledge of current prices and supply was available to all participants. By making that information available in real time the internet changed the "marketplace" for rare and second-hand books from a metaphor to a reality.
