Why visit one book fair if you can visit two?

51st Stuttgart Antiquarian Book Fair - 27th to 29th January 2012

A very attractive and high-class offer by 80 exhibitors from Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, the USA, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Hungary: The 51st Stuttgart Antiquarian Book Fair will be held on the last weekend of January, in the elegant rooms of the Württemberg Art Museum, opposite to the Palace, next to the Palace Garden and directly in the city centre of Stuttgart.

Beauty for the Eye and the Intellect

From the masters of medieval book illumination to avant-garde, Galileo Galilei next to Marcel Proust, Thomas Bernhard and James Bond. Middle Ages and modernity, science and aesthetics, beauty for the eye and the intellect: The fascination of collecting lies in the manifold subjects, and therein lies the charm of the 51st Stuttgart Antiquarian Book Fair.

45th California International Antiquarian Book Fair - 10th to 12th February 2012

Dazzling With Rare and Beautiful Treasures

Southern California will become the rare book capital of the world as thousands of book lovers, U.S. and international dealers and scholars converge for the one of the world's largest and most prestigious exhibitions of antiquarian books: the 45th California International Antiquarian Book Fair at the Pasadena Convention Center.

More than 200 booksellers will offer books on the history of music, travel and exploration, early science and medicine, technology and manufacture, law and commerce, fine bindings, children's books, literature and the arts. There will be first editions of 20th century literature, complete with dust jackets and superb illustrated books in fine condition. There will be books with remarkable typography and books with original engravings and prints by renowned masters like Rembrandt, Picasso, and Miró. A Love Affair with Books: Personal Stories of Noted Collectors

A colorful, wide-ranging exhibit spotlights legendary library builders and contemporary Southern California book lovers including: railroad magnate Henry Huntington, philanthropist William Andrews Clark, Jr., actress Sarah Michelle Gellar as well as the Ward Richie Collection, the Lawrence Clark Powell Collection and many others.

The California Antiquarian Book Fair also includes seminars on the basics of collecting and various themed topics. Among them:

The process of appraisal and the problems in determining fair market value. Presented by Charles Goldsmid and Sheryl Jaeger.


Discovery Day

Sunday, February 12 is Discovery Day, which gives attendees the opportunity to present up to three items to experts for free examination.
