Book History and Book Fairs in Boston this weekend!
A visit to Boston is like a journey through the history of the USA. The cosmopolitan capital of Massachusetts is a true melting pot of art, history and culture and home to Harvard University and MIT. Residents and booksellers are delighted to share it with visitors.
43RD BOSTON INTERNATIONAL ANTIQUARIAN BOOK FAIR
For 43 years, the Boston Antiquarian Book Fair has been a fixture in the American and international book fair calendar. In 2019, a total of 132 American and international bookdealers will exhibit at this iconic fair, making it one of the largest rare book events worldwide. (See exhibitor listing here)
A large number of events is organised each year and gives a glimpse of the cultural offerings of the city.
Meghan Melvin, Curator of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston will give the audience an insight into the art of illustrator Kay Nielson;
Author Paul di Filippo (“Fifteen Thousand Volumes of Fantastika”), poet Todd Hearon (“The Poet’s Hand: A Collection of Signed and Rare Volumes from Pope to the Present”) and historian Christopher F. Minty (“Paper Trail Curiosities”) will discuss their work at the Ticknor Society's Round Table on Saturday. The Ticknor Society, Boston's organization of book collectors, booksellers, librarians, historians, archivists, conservators, printers, publishers, writers, and all lovers and readers of books and a regular contributor to the Boston Antiquarian Book Fair.

BOSTON BOOK PRINT AND EPHEMERA FAIR
The popular satellite fair, the Boston Book Print and Ephemera Fair will take place on 16 November at the Back Bay Events Center.
BOSTON ATHENAEUM
One of the US's oldest independent libraries and cultural institutions, the Boston Athenaeum runs regular events and exhibitions.
The current major exhibition Required Reading: Reimagining a Colonial Library, showcases and interprets the King’s Chapel Library Collection, one of the surviving treasures of 17th century Boston. Visitors are invited to explore the city's colonial history, the fine crafts of bookbinding and furniture-making, and the meaning of “essential knowledge.”
