Feel good – and learn something. The “Seminar für Antiquare” or workshop for antiquarian booksellers was founded in Munich 40 years ago. The workshop for antiquarian booksellers was founded in Munich 40 years ago. Since then it is held every spring with lectures by scholars and colleagues about book history and the trade, excursions to libraries and museums, practical courses in book restoration or the care of prints and photographs, and discussion groups related to legal, economic or technical questions of our everyday business. Legendary are the evening dinners.

In 2009 the workshop concentrated on “Book and Art in Russia and Eastern Europe” (with a delicious dinner cooked by a Russian colleague). The years before the participants met in Vienna or in Hamburg for lectures and excursions about and to the cultural highlights of Austria and Northern Germany. In 2010 the workshop celebrates its 40th anniversary in Germany’s capital with a high-end programme that covers all aspects of Berlin’s rich history, special collections and cultural background. The lectures will take place at the Galerie Gerda Bassenge, the State Library, the Bauhaus Archive, and on a ship.

The workshop is organized by the Verband Deutscher Antiquare (VDA) in cooperation with the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels, and the Austrian and Swiss Antiquarian Booksellers’ Associations (VAÖ and VEBUKU).
