„Lutezia“ was the most astonishing city in the age of the Roman Empire, as we know from Goscinny and Uderzo. And it still is, because Paris owns the most elegant antiquarian book fair worldwide.
The atmosphere during the preview on Thursday was amazing. Visitors from all over the world had waited outside in the rain until the opening of the fair to admire the rich treasures presented by over 150 antiquarian booksellers from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Scandinavia, Argentina, the United Kingdom and the United States. The prestigious books, manuscripts and prints on display range from medieval manuscripts to handwritten letters by artists, philosophers and writers like Zola, Proust and Freud to a very rare edition of Francesco Colonna’s “Hypnerotomachia Poliphili” and the beautiful book illustrations and bindings by Picasso, Braque and the avant-garde. Even a pre-historic monkey has been seen (and kissed) at one of the stands.
