WHO OWNED THIS? Libraries and the Rare Book Trade consider issues surrounding Provenance, Theft and Forgery

Amsterdam, world capital of book production in the 17th and 18th centuries, still abounds in libraries. Pick your choice: Ets Haim, the oldest Jewish library in Europe; the Artis-Bibliotheek, the library of our zoo where you step from Audubon in the actual natural world; the Special Collections of our University; the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica, shelter for intractable thinkers; the City Archives with jewels of our past; and many more. Amsterdam is full of museums, large and small: of course you will have the opportunity to see Rembrandt in the Rijksmuseum, and Mondriaan in the Stedelijk, our shipping history in the Scheepvaart Museum (home to great atlases and globes, and tales of discovery), and much more. Fine restaurants cater to the hungry booksellers and waterfront cafés to the thirsty. To avoid traffic jams our transportation will be mainly by canal boat. Don't miss the opportunity to visit with us to some smaller towns in Holland: quiet Hoorn, Haarlem, "royal" The Hague, and Leiden (our own "Oxbridge"). All have their own museums and libraries, displaying treasures of our Golden Age. ILAB-Congress is also an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences. Conferences with bibliophiles and professionals are planned, discussions on the history of the book and its future. ILAB-Congress is also an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences. The Congress participants will have the privilege of a cocktails preview of the Book Fair on Friday, before we conclude our Congress with a festive dinner. The 40th Amsterdam International Book & Print Fair will be open to the public on Saturday 3 October and Sunday 4 October.
