Winter Tales

decoration10 Feb. 2012|28 April 2012

A thematic exhibition focusing on depictions of winter in art from the Renaissance to Impressionism. Entitled ‘Winter Tales,’ it includes some 120 works by artists such as Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Jacob van Ruisdael, Francisco de Goya, Kazimir Malevich, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch and many other European painters.

Catalogue

The exhibition catalogue, published by Dumont, covers much more than the works from the Renaissance to Impressionism that feature in the exhibition: it extends the story up to the present day – with Joseph Beuys, for example, representing entirely new concepts in art with his sledge, felt, fat and torch. The publication includes a detailed main essay by curator Ronald de Leeuw as well as over a dozen further contributions.
