Due to a generous grant of the Ernst von Siemens Foundation the Bavarian State Library was able to buy the „Kemptener Klosterchronik“ at a Christie’s auction in July 2010. The beautifully illuminated manuscript from the year 1499 was written in Kempten. It is a collection of historical reports and sacred legends which, among others, describe the life of Charlemagne (747/748-814) and his wife ( 757-783) as well as the foundation of the Benedictine monastery in Kempten in 773. The manuscript will be presented to the public for the first time in July 2011.
