The Russian avant-garde still has the capacity to surprise with its unmistakable modernity and "vigour". In posters, books, graphic art and paintings the exhibition in Leipzig portrays the experimental way in which language, script and images were handled, the synthesis of which helped break down boundaries between genres and create a new world of signs and symbols. The artists of the avant-garde like Vladimir Mayakovsky, Pavel Tretyakov, Natalia Goncharova created visualised poetry.
The exhibition at the Buch- und Schriftmuseum has been organized in cooperation with the State Museum and Exhibition Centre ROSIZO and renowned Russian museums such as the State Museum of Mayakovsky and the Russian State Library. These institutions have loaned a number of hitherto unexhibited works.
