On 26th January, 1911, Richard Strauss’ opera “Rosenkavalier” had its premiere in Dresden, two months later it was performed in Vienna for the first time on April 8th 1911. The Austrian National Library (Vienna) celebrates the 100th anniversary of one of the most popular operas by Richard Strauss with an exhibition. On show are the original “Rosenkavalier” manuscript as well as contemporary prints, books and autographs by Strauss, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Molière and Jean-Baptiste Louvet de Couvray. It highlights the literary and historical background of the opera and the life and genius of Richard Strauss who was director of the Vienna opera together with Franz Schalk from 1919 to 1924.
