National Book Auctions - Books, Art and Ephemera

decoration15 Sept. 2013
This catalog features rare, antique and decorative books as well as select additions of art, ephemera and collectibles.  Highlighted is a large quantity of desirable antique books dating back to the 16th century.  We will also sell a sizable personal library of ornithological reference and history.  Art pieces are led by an original watercolor painting by renowned Indian artist, Sakti Burman, while the antiques and collectibles include an original 1892 signed Pennsylvania Dutch blanket chest.

Antique and rare books in this catalog feature numerous titles.  Among the earliest examples are Flaccus’ “Iunii Juvenalis et A. Persii Flacci Satyrae,” printed in 1567, the 1652 printing of “Les Essais de Montaigne,” and Eduard Sandifort’s “Museum Anatomicum Academiae Lugduno-Bavatae,” published in two folio volumes in 1793 and incorporating a quantity of engraved plates.  Numerous other specimens from the 18th and 19th centuries are also included in the catalog.  Other rare titles include the 1792 first American edition of Mary Woolstonecraft’s “A Vindication of the Rights of Woman,” “Oppian's Halieuticks of the Nature of Fishes and Fishing of the Antients,” printed in 1722, and the 1927 first edition of Edith Sitwell’s “Rustic Elegies,” bearing the author’s signature and a possibly original poem on the front endpaper, also in the author’s hand. Several other antique titles relating to the history of the American frontier and West, Yosemite, Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon will also be offered.
