Gray Matter: David Macaulay’s Black and White

decoration19 May 2015|29 Nov. 2015

An exhibition of the original artworks for David Macaulay’s Caldecott award-winning Black and White, conceived as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the book’s publication. Praised as one of the first post-modern picture books where a unified linear narrative was rejected, the book comprises four possible stories arranged in four panels per page which the reader can read according to their preference. The material on display documents the creative process of such a seemingly unorthodox book and provides a deeper understanding of Macaulay’s work.
