Burning Bright: William Blake and Art of the Book

decoration08 Feb. 2013|23 June 2013

A previously uncatalogued masterpiece by one of Britain’s greatest artists is on display for the first time at The John Rylands Library: “Burning Bright”, by William Blake. The exhibition also features over thirty etchings and engravings and works by artists and designers who were influenced by Blake. Highlights include a hand-coloured copy of Young's Night Thoughts. John Rylands Library archivist Stella Halkyard said:

"Because of their dispersal across our collections, many of these works had previously lain undetected … Too often we undervalue Blake’s exceptional talents as a commercial engraver so it is rare to showcase so many of these engravings together in one place. This display is an opportunity to celebrate the richness of this aspect of his work.”
