In celebration of the 40th year of the Book Trade History Conference, The Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association Education Trust are delighted to announced that the 2018 event - LIVES IN BOOK TRADE HISTORY: Changing Contours of Research over forty years – will take place on Sunday 25 and Monday 26 November at Stationers’ Hall in the heart of the City of London.
Organised by conference co-founders Robin Myers and Michael Harris, and Giles Mandelbrote, Librarian & Archivist at Lambeth Palace Library - in association with the ABA Educational Trust – this year's conference will explore some of the most important themes and developments in book trade history through the eyes and experience of some of its most widely respected exponents.
Looking back over their own work to identify the significant influences upon them and changes in focus and research methods over time, speakers will cover topics from ‘A Lifetime in Early Printed Books’ and ‘Italy, Bibliography and Myself’ to Medieval Manuscripts and the Dunedin Library,’ ‘Copyright & Authorship: From the Courthouse to the Archive’, ‘The Development of Print Studies since the Second World War’, ‘Approaches to the Study of Bookbindings: From E P Goldschmidt to H M Nixon & Beyond’, Becoming a Rare Books Librarian and ‘From Scandalous Women to Provincial peruke-Makers’.
During the lunch break on Sunday 25 November delegates will have the opportunity to join a tour led by Ruth Frendo, Archivist of the Stationers’ Company, around the new Stationers’ Company archive building.
Robin Myers and Michael Harris will close proceedings with a look at ‘Forty Years of Book Trade History.’
