Von Bachmann bis Zuckmayer - 40 GedichtmanuskriptePublished on 02 Dec. 2016
Catalogue No. 7Published on 19 Oct. 2016
In this catalogue we offer a range of modern first editions,
presentation copies, artists’ books and miscellaneous items.
Several items are derived from the library of Gerard Bonnier
(1917–1987) and his wife Elisabeth ”Peggy” Bonnier (1922–
2013), part owners of Bonniers, the leading Swedish publishing
house. They were devoted book and art collectors, reflected
here in the artists’ books by Juan Gris, Jean/Hans
Arp and Corneille. Large parts of their significant collection
of paintings were donated to Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
There are books inscribed to them by authors whose works
were published on the Swedish market by Bonniers, such as
Heinrich Böll, William Golding, and Nelly Sachs.
Also offered are finely-bound first editions by Knut Hamsun
and Hjalmar Söderberg, and books inscribed by Hjalmar
Bergman, Chillida, Paul Éluard and Axel Munthe.

What looks to a man like an angel from heaven may turn out to be quite human on earth, when first love leads to desillusion instead of happy matrimony. Engelbert Fürst made this experience in Vienna 1833 when he proposed to Therese Mervilles, the later wife of Franz von Suppé. He wrote down his disgust in a "Warning for Men", which is one of the highlights of our new catalogue. Please have a look at Catalogue 156 offering autograph letters by Bellini, Hedin, Donizetti, Grieg, Grillparzer, Gulbransson, Thomas and Katia Mann, Hugo and Christiane von Hofmannsthal and many others.[...] Read more
