11th Australasian Rare Books Summer School

The State Library of NSW is delighted to host the 11th Australasian Rare Books Summer School. From 1 – 5 February 2016 three intensive five-day courses and a two-day short course will be presented by leading experts. London Rare Books School – 2013

A couple of appearances for me on the maps course last week, but a full-time commitment to the Modern First Editions course this week. Booksellers generally love talking, of course – especially about books (and even more about themselves) – so it's been an excellent week. A delightful if very mixed group of students. The course well under way on Monday with a discursive session on the history and background of collecting modern books, the intellectual rationale of collecting, the nuances of textual transmission, the meaning of 'modern' in this context and the first appearance of author-collecting guides.

Talks and Tours at Chelsea Antiquarian Book Fair – November 1-2, 2013

Over its life, the Chelsea Antiquarian Book Fair has become a fixture in the November calendar for book collectors and dealers from Britain, Europe and America. Warmer than Boston, more intimate than York, less formal than Paris – Chelsea has it all. Dealer and collectors love the fair: it's friendly and varied, the dealers have time to talk, there are plenty of books but it's not overwhelming. 'See you at Chelsea' has become a phrase familiar to everyone in the British rare book trade. This year's Fair will offer visitors an excellent opportunity to find the perfect antiquarian book among thousands brought to the Chelsea Old Town Hall from 1st to 2nd November. 47th California International Antiquarian Book Fair - February 7-9, 2014

The California International Antiquarian Book Fair is recognized as one of the world's largest and most prestigious exhibitions of antiquarian books. The three-day event from 7th to 9th February 2014 will offer something exciting for every book lover and collector. Visitors can purchase rare items from medieval manuscripts to collectible editions of authors into the 21st century. There will be unusual books on travel and exploration (including maps), literature, the arts, science and medicine, children's books, law and commerce, ephemera, and Americana. First, signed, and limited editions of many important authors will be present, plus collections of original photographs, prints by renowned artists from the 16th to the 21st century, and remarkable examples of book making, binding, and typography.
