At the Ordinary General Meeting on 4th February 2018 the presidents of ILAB’s national member associations voted for Sally Burdon (Australia) as new ILAB President. She succeeds Gonzalo F. Pontes who served as President from 2016 to 2018; and will be supported by ILAB Vice‐President Fabrizio Govi (Italy).

De Caro and the Girolamini Thefts – Official Note of Protest of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB)

Since spring of 2012 the issue of the massive thefts in the Girolamini Library and other Italian libraries had kept busy both the Italian Justice as well as the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB). ILAB understands fully that this is a complicated issue as the main suspected person, Marino Massimo de Caro, has carefully – and partly successfully - tried to cover up the traces of plundering he had left in the National Heritages. ILAB has, however, offered from April in 2012 onwards its help and cooperation to clear up this mess in many ways, an offer, which unfortunately had never been accepted and had not even been answered by Italian authorities.

A Portrait of the Bookseller as a Young Man and Woman - A Photography Exhibition at the 55th Stuttgart Antiquarian Book Fair

The Stuttgart Antiquarian Book Fair is one of the oldest fairs of this kind worldwide. Founded in 1962 and shortly after the first antiquarian book fair in London, it now looks back to 55 successful years of existence. Exactly thirty years ago, an exciting experiment – a mixture between art performance and historical documentation – took place at the Stuttgart Fair. In 1985, the German photographer Joachim W. Siener set up a photo studio at the fair, and among all the books and business he took portraits of all the 80 exhibitors during the four book fair days. Siener used a special high-format technique of time exposure which had been developed by the photographers of the 1920s with the effect that the pictures have a high artistic quality. They look vivid and "out of life" – like movie stills.

Buch Wien 2012: The Austrian Antiquarian Booksellers go Facebook, Twitter & Co.

Not at all antiquated: the Austrian Association of Antiquarian Booksellers (VAO) introduces its new website to the public at the book fair "Buch Wien 12" from 22nd to 25th November, 2012. The new website www.antiquare.at was developed in collaboration with the Hauptverband des österreichischen Buchhandels as well as with the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) and is supposed to be an innovative platform for business, culture and book sciences in and out of Austria – a (virtual) space for networking, interaction and interdisciplinary exchange.
