Missale Nidrosiense 500 years
On May 25 2019 it is exactly 500 years since the Missale Nidrosiense left the printing press in Copenhagen. It was made for the Archdiocese of Trondheim (Nidaros) which then included all of Norway, Iceland, Greenland, a number of Islands in the North sea and parts of what is today Sweden. The Missale, being printed specifically for Norway, is considered the country’s earliest printed book.
Antikvariat Mats Rehnström are proud to present a copy of this rare and historical book.
A richly illustrated pdf-catalogue with detailed description in Swedish is available. A short summary in English follows below, a more detailed translation of our description can be provided if needed.
The book is bound in a splendid but slightly worn calf binding from the first half of the 18th century with morocco title label, Danish king Christian VI’s gilt monogram in the top compartment of the spine, the gilt coat-of-arms of Denmark in the other compartments. It has also belonged to the famous liturgical collection of Charles Louis de Bourbon Duke of Parma. The book lacks two leaves that have been replaced with well made facsimiles.
Mawson | Delprat Exhibition
Exhibition 16–27 September 2019
196 North Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia
10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday
It is our great pleasure to offer here a selection of items, some rare and important, others unusual or curious, but at all times interesting, and with the guaranteed provenance of Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson and his father-in-law, Guillaume Daniel Delprat, General Manager of BHP.
Highlights include a seventeenth-century Dutch armoire; rare Antarctic photographs by Frank Hurley, T.W. Edgeworth David and Andrew Watson (among the first images of that part of the continent); artefacts taken on Mawson's Antarctic expeditions; and a singular oil painting by Charles Harrisson, artist and biologist on Mawson's Australasian Antarctic Expedition, 1911–1914, presented to Paquita and Douglas on their wedding day in March 1914.
